One of my go-to favourite pizzas is pineapple and onion. This vegan hawaiian BBQ jackfruit pizza takes that combo a step further. Besides the sweet and savoury components of pineapple and onion, this pizza has a sweet, spicy, and smoky touch from BBQ sauce and jackfruit.
What I did notice while breaking into the world of jackfruit is that its typically only used in the standard sandwich or taco concept, which makes no sense! Although I never really consumed pork, there are tons or recipes that incorporate it.
Let’s talk about this pizza crust for a sec. My homemade pizza crust is like finding gold. The recipe is incredible. Soft and fluffy and oh-so-chewy on the inside, crispy on the outside. It freezes well, thaws easily, puffs up beautifully when baked. It’s a thick-style crust recipe that can hold an impressive amount of toppings. I’m all about the toppings.
Topped with loads of jackfruit drenched in barbecue sauce, chunks of bright and juicy pineapple, bold bits of sun-dried tomatoes, topped with crispy kale, this pizza had me donning a grass skirt and doing the hula in one mouth flat. Yeah - it’s that good. More pineapple = better pizza, am I right? Sweet and salty is my weakness!
