Berry Açai Bowl

Meet the new love of my life, the açaí bowl featuring healthy, antioxidant rich acai, mangoes, blueberries, blackberries and strawberries, blended to a thick & creamy smoothness. Packed with essential vitamins & minerals, açaí bowls are the perfect smoothie elixir! I’ve been curious about açaí bowls for a while now, after seeing them pop up on my friends’ vacation feeds. Like always, I researched açaí bowls to the end of the internet and played with my own açaí bowl recipe until it was just right. They are so tasty, refreshing always give me lots of energy.

Up until recently, I was fairly inexperienced with açaí berries. but they are everywhere and eventually became hard to ignore. Knowing açaí has superfood powers (and you know I love my superfoods), I decided it was time to get a little bit familiar with this exotic berry. Acai berries are native to Central and South America. They are reddish-purple in color and have a complex blackberry/dark chocolate taste. They are considered a superfood because they are among the highest foods in antioxidants – higher than even blueberries – and are considered to have anti-aging and weight loss properties while being natural energy boosters. Açaí berries are also rich in B vitamins, vitamins A, D, and E, protein, fibre, and necessary minerals, such as zinc and magnesium. The dark purple colour of açaí is an indicator that it is loaded with polyphenols and anthocyanins (a flavanoid pigment also found in beets, blackberries and blueberries) and packed full of antioxidants. In fact, açaí has the highest level of anthocyanins.

Over the past couple of weeks I have been enjoying this acai bowl, replacing my typical breakfast, to start my day, and friends, I’m loving it. Dressing up this smoothie bowl with some crunchy granola and fresh fruit absolutely makes my day. Every spoonful with the variety of textures coming from the clusters of granola, the luscious smoothie, and the chunks of fresh fruit is, in my book, perfection.

Back to this vegan açaí bowl - they are fan-frickin’-tastic. I’m not one to drink my breakfast but because this is a bowl, and I end up topping it off with all kinds of toppings, it is a dish that I eat with a spoon. I love how many nutrient dense ingredients have been snuck into this açaí bowl, and i’m always left feeling extremely satisfied and full. If you want to save a couple dollars and start making a vegan açaí bowl at home, look no further. This bowl trumps all of the bowls I’ve ever tried out and about!
