Let’s stop time for a second and breathe. When I need a little break, I bake bread. I’m poppin' in today with a fabulous new dinner roll so move over plain white rolls (not that there is anything wrong with them)! I’m making room for some dinner rolls with these vegan savoury pumpkin rolls! (How many times can I say roll in one sentence?!) The scents of pumpkin, spices, maple, and bread baking that waft thorough the house are positively intoxicating. Sure beats lighting a pumpkin-scented candle.
These savoury pumpkin rolls are hearty, full of flavour and oh so soft! These pinwheels are a fun alternative to regular pizza if you want to change things up, whether you serve them as an appetiser or a main with a green salad. Look at these big, golden, glistening rolls. They are soft, fluffy, and just chewy enough. The pumpkin flavour, while present, is not overly strong. They give pumpkin lovers a taste of their favourite orange-coloured food group, while not alienating those who don’t love in-your-face pumpkin flavour.
Last Sunday I suddenly had an urge to bake something. But not just anything – it had to be pumpkin-flavoured. I wasn’t intending to write a post about this recipe, and just snapped a few photos out of habit. But once I tasted these little balls of goodness, I knew I had to share them with the world. And after many trials (like, omg, many), I’ve taken it one step further. This is vegan pumpkin roll nirvana, friends. Welcome to the pumpkin party. I’m no master baker but I found the process to be much easier than I had imagined. And so I stepped out of my comfort zone and gave these rolls a whirl! Did I mention that these made my house smell amazing?
These rolls aren’t your traditional bread rolls, they have a slightly different crust texture that isn’t as chewy as a regular roll, but these are still amazing. As soon as they came out of the oven, I grabbed one to taste. I planned on just a taste…but in seconds, butter was out, and the roll was slathered in it and devoured before anyone could stop me.
Pumpkins are delicious and nutritious. So why not add some in the dinner rolls to join the harvest season and celebrate the bounty of mother nature? If you know someone who’s on the fence about pumpkin or have a family where some people love it, but others are just so-so, these are the perfect compromise. You will not be disappointed at the taste, the aroma, and the looks of these super cute and super delicious treats. Have I got you excited for pumpkin buns yet?
