Sourdough Banana Bread

I’ve been baking with sourdough for a little over a year now. It’s been a delicious learning experience full of highly praised successes and inevitably a few massive fails. Tending to my starters (because a girl can never have too many backups) has brought me endless joy and feelings of purpose. And as if sour dough bread and banana bread aren’t good on their own, this sourdough banana bread kicks it up a notch!

Banana bread is such a classic. I have been making my grandma’s recipe for years. There is something extremely comforting about the smell and taste of a nice quick bread! Sourdough enhances baked goods for even better nutrition. So it makes sense to use this lost art of baking to make a lovely, tasty loaf of spiced banana bread.

Sourdough banana bread is put together like a regular quick bread but it uses a cup of sourdough starter to replace part of the flour and liquid from a traditional banana bread recipe. The sourdough starter adds extra flavour, but doesn’t actually make the banana bread taste like sourdough bread. Your sourdough banana bread will just have that little something special that will make people wonder what your secret is.

Sluuuuurp…oh sorry, that was me sucking back the saliva that was forming in my mouth while typing this blog post. I have found that I have a habit of making vegan breads, which is not overwhelmingly sweet, which I like, and is glorious with pb and jam. You can definitely taste some sourdough flavour, which makes the bread taste rich and unique. Like in an I’ll-never-eat-normal-banana-bread-again sort of way.
