Spicy Sambal Scallion Bread

No more dozing off in class or school with this vegan spicy sambal scallion bread. Having just regular bread or toast in the morning isn’t going to satisfy your taste buds and wake you up for sure, so get up and get ready to bake some of this spicy bread! Sambal is the perfect ingredient when it comes to spiciness as the taste is unique, hot and tangy.

Milk bread is without a doubt my favorite bread. It probably was before and I never officially declared it until now. This spicy bread reminded me of childhood time as I used to buy chilli buns from my school's canteen.

Sambal is just a spicy chili and garlic paste that’s quite similar to Calabrian chillies. In order to make this bread, I used my tangzhong recipe to give this bun its lasting softness. I find the sambal filling much more satisfying as not only has it sweetness but saltiness and spiciness as well. The bread is not meant to be spicy – there’s a hint of it throughout the uber soft milk brad, enough to notice a hint of heat but not enough to be overpowering. Nonetheless, the sambal itself is just so aromatic and tasty, it complemented the whole bread so well.
